Fodele Fontana Appartments

In a separate green area of ​​Crete, the village of Fodele, the birthplace of El Greco, we have made our own space with our apartments Fodele Fontana Apartments.
We operate all year round, with fully furnished apartments with TV, fridge, fully equipped kitchen, free wifi and in the larger laundry compartments. In our exterior space there is parking under the shade of the great plantains with its roots spread out on the Fodele River.
The place is ideal for walks along the green paths of the area where you can visit the museum of the famous Greek painter El Greco. The monastery of Agios Panteleimonas is about 3 km away.
After your wander in the beautiful vegetation of the place, you can visit the organized beach of Fodele, which is located 2.5 km from our apartments, where you will find all the amenities of the modern beach, such as umbrellas, sun beds, cafes and taverns. In our cosmopolitan village you will also find a variety of cafes and tavernas, bakery, mini market, gift shops and traditional goods and pharmacy.

Fodele Vilage

The idyllic Fodele, an oasis of greenery, flowers, colors, fragrances and waters, grows in the narrow, overgrown with orange and lemon trees of the homonymous valley, crossed by the Pantomantris River and surrounded by high, full of wildflowers, water and cave mountains. A beautiful place with history, full of legends, full of myths and traditions.

El Greco (Dominikos Theotokopoulos)

Dominikos Theotokopoulos was born in 1541 in the village of Fodele, a few kilometers outside of Chandaka, today’s Heraklion, Crete. His parents were bourgeois and his father worked as a tax collector for the Republic of Venice, which had conquered Crete.

In the enchanting frame of Skoteni, near the Byzantine Virgin Mary, the museum of Dominikos Theotokopoulos, the mansion of Fodele, operates in the “mansions”. The museum is housed in a post-Byzantine residential complex restored under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and has been operating since 1998 with a copy of the works of the great painter and receives about ten thousand visitors per year.
